Development of Integrity Study

Dr. Kang Lee and team are studying young children’s rule keeping and breaking to elucidate the developmental changes that can facilitate the emergence of social and academic integrity. The goals of our study are to determine whether rule acceptance is situationally based and whether it changes across development. We are evaluating the major social, cognitive, and environmental factors that might contribute to the development of academic and social rule abidance.

During the study children will be placed in school-related situations to observe for rule attending. They will complete various games and we will read short stories together to identify the role certain factors might contribute to rule adherence. Parents will be asked to complete questionnaires about their child. This is a longitudinal study taking place over a period of three years enabling a comprehensive study of the development of rule-directed behaviour.

All our study activities are completed remotely at home, allowing parents and children to participate according to their convenience. This work will allow us to understand better the nature of rule-directed behaviour and associated factors such that future work will allow for the development of programs promoting academic integrity.
